Fox Cancels Ancient Egypt Drama Hieroglyph Before It Even Airs

Ouch. Even though Fox gave a 13-episode series order to ancient Egypt set adventure series Hieroglyph during pilot season this year, it has now pulled the plug and canceled the show, before any episodes had even aired (it was set to debut during midseason).

Only the pilot had been shot, starring Max Brown, Reece Ritchie, Condola Rashad and John Rhys-Davies, but scripts for several more episodes had been written. According to EW, Fox execs felt the series “wasn’t creatively coming together the way executives had hoped.”

Kevin Reilly, who gave the series the greenlight, recently left his post as Fox’s programming chief. So I guess the new leadership (not yet announced) doesn’t agree with some of his choices.

Had it gone to air, Hiergolyph would have followed “a notorious thief who is plucked from prison to serve the Pharoah, forcing him to navigate palace intrigue, seductive concubines, criminal underbellies and divine sorcerers, as he races to stop the downfall of one of history’s greatest civilizations.”

David S. Goyer Developing Horror Novel Snowblind As Miniseries Adaptation

David S. Goyer has teamed up with Universal TV to develop Christopher Golden’s novel Snowblind as a potential miniseries, according to Deadline.

Snowblind is set in a small New England town, where 12 years ago, 12 people wandered into a catastrophic snowstorm and vanished, leaving their loved ones and neighbors to pick up the pieces. As a new storm approaches, even bigger than the one from a dozen years ago, it shapes up to be even bigger and deadlier than its predecessor and stirs up all the old emotions and mysteries still lingering behind in the town.

Certainly sounds like a recipe to mix beautiful cinematography with some good character development, if they can get it right. The book is compared to early Stephen King and has the endorsement of King himself as well:

Snowblind is instantly involving and deeply scary. It will bring a blizzard to your bones (and your heart) even in the middle of July. Throw away all those old ‘it was a dark and stormy night’ novels; this one is the real deal. And watch out for that last page. It’s a killer.

Tom Hardy Joins Leonardo Dicaprio In The Revenant

Inception reunion alert! Tom Hardy has officially joined the cast of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Western revenge thriller The Revenant, which has Leonardo Dicaprio in the lead role.

Based on Michael Punke’s novel The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge, Dicaprio plays a fur trapper who is robbed and left for dead by his companions after a grisly grizzly bear attack. Of course, he survives, and begins to seek revenge from those who wronged him. It’s unclear who Hardy will play, but likely one of the aforementioned traitors. We’re the Millers star Will Poulter is also on board, and perhaps more importantly, so is cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, just coming off his Oscar win for Gravity.

Filming begins on September 22, with a Fall 2015 release planned.

Bill Hader And Kristen Wiig Are The Skeleton Twins In First Trailer

It’s always a bit bizarre when SNL comedians do more straight drama – are they just playing deadpan sarcastically, or are they actually being serious? That’s the case in the first trailer for Sundance dramedy The Sekelton Twins, starring Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader as siblings who are reconnecting.

I think they’re being really serious here. With a bit of deadpan humor that’s character-specific. I think.

First Look At Henry Cavill As Clark Kent In Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Again, Twitter is giving us our first look at a member of the Justice League in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Henry Cavill is a great supporter of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust, and that organization was given the opportunity to show off the first official image of Cavill clearly in Clark Kent garb on the set.

James Gunn Wrapping Up Guardians Of The Galaxy, Offers Another Nathan Fillion Update

Seems like we’ve been waiting forever for Guardians of the Galaxy, but the wait is almost over, and no one is more aware of its impending release than director James Gunn, who took to Facebook to leave an emotional farewell of sorts.

Here’s part of what he said:

I swear, I’ve gotten angry with filmmakers like Ridley Scott and George Lucas who can’t let go of their old films and want to keep going back and offering up different versions, but I can easily see myself doing that now.

This is essentially my last week of actually making Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s been two years straight and I’ve starting to become terrified of actually having to STOP. But on July 7 I leave for Singapore to begin the press tour so I suppose I really have no choice.

Lucky Singapore!

Meanwhile, the Nathan Fillion rumors just will not stop, and Gunn is a bit fed up with it all. He puts it to rest once and for all with Nerdist. Sort of:

Nathan Fillion is not Nova. There’s so much bullshit on the internet. I woke up – first it’s ‘Nathan’s Nova!’, then there are articles all over saying Nathan’s Cosmo. It’s like, ‘What?!’ Nathan’s role is a very small cameo that I wanted to give to Nathan because I love working with him and I think it’s lucky for me to have Nathan in all of my movies. At the same time I wanted to give him something where Nathan could have a larger role in the Marvel Universe if either Joss [Whedon] or I or whoever chose to do that in the future. Which I would love to do. I would love to give Nathan something he could really chew on, but it didn’t work out on this movie for two reasons. Number one — because he was shooting Castle. And number two, because it just wasn’t the right exact role for him.

Ok, yes, he denies Nova but not Cosmo, but really, we’re reaching the stage here where the best thing to do is probably just to wait and see and stop speculating. But Cosmo certainly makes a lot more sense than Nova.

Sharks On The Subway In First Clip From Sharknado 2: The Second One

Because duh. When Ian Ziering is having a heart to heart with Mark McGrath and there’s a guy cranking out a tune on an electric guitar – on the subway – and then Perez Hilton shows up for some reason, a sudden shark attack really doesn’t seem that out of the ordinary.

Here’s the first clip from Sharknado 2: The Second One. That title is what happens when you hold Twitter contests to name your movie. Was Sharknado 2 Fast 2 Furious considered copyright infringement?

First Jurassic World Human Casualty Teased In New Image From Colin Treverrow

Why on earth would anyone take a job being the veterinarian of Jurassic World? This poor sap, whose bloody handprint is the center of the newest teasing tweet from director Colin Trevorrow, will definitely be making a career change… on the slim chance he actually survived whatever dinosaur encounter left this crime scene behind.
