Call of Duty: Blacks Op 3 Has Sold Better Than The Last Two Games In The Franchise

unnamed (1)
By Adam Cook

Activision has announced that Black Ops 3 is the biggest entertainment launch of the year, having made $550 million in the first three days it was on sale.
They’ve not made all the figures available, but apparently the sales are “significantly” bigger than Advanced Warfare and Ghosts – though, of course, both PS4 and Xbox One have a larger install base than ever before. Activision said:

In its first three days, the blockbuster title exceeded $550 million in sell-through worldwide, according to Activision estimates.<

The game has also set new records for hours played, with 75 million of them being logged in that same three day period.<Incidentally, it actually appears that these figures might signify a decline for this particular series on the whole, as Black Ops 2 actually made more than $500 million in its first 24 hours. That said, Black Ops 3 also became the biggest selling digital PS4 title, so perhaps that switch of co-marketing from Xbox to Sony has worked well for them.
Oh, and they also said something about it being a bigger launch that Jurassic World, but we can’t work out why that’s relevant.

The Nathan Drake Collection Was The Best Selling Digital PS4 Game In October

unnamed (10)

By Adam Cook

After a stellar line-up of games hitting Sony’s PS4 last month, it’s perhaps a surprise to see that the best selling digital game in their store was Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection – a remastered collection of the first three Uncharted games. It’s especially given how often FIFA dominates retail charts.

Elsewhere, Destiny: The Taken King takes the second spot, with FIFA 16, Rocket League, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, and Minecraft: Story Mode making up the rest of the top five.

The full top twenty is listed on the Official PlayStation Blog, where Sony also reveals the best selling piece of DLC for October was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Hearts of Stone.

This War of Mine Hits Smartphones Today

By Adam Cook

Critical hit This War of Mine from 11 bit studios)has been released on iOS and Android smartphones today. It’s a game well worth considering, as it has almost XCOM-like management mechanics, and while not quite as deep, they’ll accompany as you traverse a war torn country, trying to scavenge and survive.

There’s a distinct gameplay difference between day and night, as you go from managing your residents to controlling them as you enter other people’s strongholds to try and find the things you need to stay alive.

It’s kinda cool, and actually makes you think. We even gave it a special mention in our Game of the Year awards.

Note from Patrick: If you haven’t picked up the game yet, I really encourage you to, on what ever platform possible.

Microsoft Challenge YouTubers To Be Real Life Tomb Raiders

By Adam Cook

File this one under “kinda cool marketing-type things”, but Microsoft has sent four YouTubers to Siberia for 48 hours in celebration of the release of Rise of the Tomb Raider, and under the guise of challenging them to survive like Lara Croft.

They’ll be climbing rocks, hiking up mountains in blizzard conditions, and more. The YouTubers doing this all are Project Syndicate, Oli White, Jade Jolie, and Yammy xox.

After that, there’s going to be a survival billboard on the 12th November, whereby fans can vote on the weather conditions that Jade Jolie will be tested against. You can watch that via Twitch, here.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is out this Friday, incidentally, and it’s really bloody good.

Xbox One Preview Members Might Be Getting Something Special

Xbox One

By Adam Cook

Have you been a part of the Xbox One preview program, and experienced the multitude of dash-updates thanks to that new experience? I have, and it’s been… fine, actually, since it all updates while I sleep.

But Microsoft have acknowledged on Twitter (via VG247) that it’s been annoying for some, and Director of Program Management at Xbox, Mike Ybarra has said that there might well be something for those who helped in the program.

So keep an eye on your messages on Xbox Live, and maybe you’ll get a code… or something. Who knows? Maybe it’ll even be the exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider. It won’t, but it’s nice to dream.

Telltale’s Game of Thrones Coming to Retail – New Screenshots Shown

By Adam Cook

It may have been a while coming, but any finale of Game of Thrones is something that’s going to grab attention, and the Telltale series comes to a close on November 17th.

To announce that it’s also coming to retail (on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4) for $29.99 on that same date, the developer put out some new screenshots, which you can see below.

For UK readers: the retail, disc-based version will be released on November 20th.

Here’s the blurb on the finale, for those who simply cannot wait:

Your story is about to come to an epic conclusion. With House Whitehill tightening its grip on Ironrath at the behest of Ramsay Bolton, the remaining Forresters must give their all to save the family, whether through diplomacy, subterfuge, or violent force. In the frozen wilds beyond The Wall, Gared learns the secrets of the mysterious North Grove, and Mira discovers that political games in a King’s Landing controlled by Cersei Lannister often involve the highest stakes of all.

Rainbow Six Siege PC Specs Revealed

Rainbow six

By Adam Cook

Over on Ubisoft’s official blog, it’s revealed exactly what kind of PC you’ll need to run the latest (and hopefully greatest) Rainbow Six title.

The minimum specs:

Supported OS:
Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64bit versions required)
Processor
Intel Core i3 560 @ 3.3 GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 945 @ 3.0 GHz

RAM:
6GB

Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 or AMD Radeon HD 5870 (DirectX-11 compliant with 1GB of VRAM) [See list of supported video cards down below]

DVD ROM Drive:
DVD-ROM Dual Layer

Sound:
DirectX® 9.0c compatible sound card with latest drivers

Hard Drive:
30GB

Multiplayer:
Broadband connection with 256kbps upstream or faster

Despite offering non-competitive modes, obviously you need to be always online, but hey, this is an online shooter, so it’s okay – right?

Those minimum specs aren’t exactly monstrous, but they’re not low-end, either. That said, if you’re intending to play games on PC, then 6GB of RAM is the minimum you’d want to have, and it certainly doesn’t require a super powerful GPU.

Ubisoft has also let us know what video cards are supported, so here’s that list:

NVIDIA: GeForce GTX 460 or better, GTX 560 or better, GTX 650 or better, GTX 750 or better, or any card from the GT900 and Titan Series.

AMD: Radeon HD5870 or better, HD6870 or better, HD7770 or better, R7 260X or better, or any card from the R-300 series and Fury X

Laptop models of these cards “may” work but “are not supported”, so bare that in mind.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Gentleman Claptrap-In-A-Box Edition Coming This Holiday

unnamed

By Adam Cook

Rather than announce the third (proper) game in the series (which, by the way, really should feature the characters from Telltale’s Tales from the Borderlands), 2K has announced a new version of the remastered collection featuring Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 – only this time it’s very expensive.

Coming in at a whopping $399.99 (or £269.99), it obviously contains the two games with all the add-on content, twelve exclusive lithographs, and a collectible steel case. But the real prize here is the mustachioed, top-hatted Claptrap that is controlled by a smartphone app. Oh and he has a monocle. So if you didn’t buy it when they put the last one out, which featured just a plain old boring Claptrap, then this is the one for you.

It’s out on November 27th, and you can pre-order it at GameStop. If you do, then you’re clearly a rich person, so well done for doing so brilliantly at life.

By Adam Cook

Just in case you’ve not had enough Fallout 4 already (you’ve been playing non-stop since release, right?), for $15.99 you can grab the soundtrack which available on iTunes right now.

It’s a big one, too, with 65 tracks from composer Inon Zur, who was also responsible for the music in Dragon Age: Inquisition and Dragon’s Dogma.

So if you’re dying to listen to Fallout when you’re not playing Fallout, grab it via this link. Hey, maybe this way you won’t have to call in sick using Pete Hine’s note to get your next fix of the Commonwealth wastelands.
