MARVEL LEGACY Will Leave ‘No Franchise Untouched,’ Promises ‘Classic Characters’

Even STAN LEE has something to say about MARVEL LEGACY.

Wonder Woman Now a Bigger Hit Than BvS, Suicide Squad

As it heads into its fifth weekend in release, Wonder Woman has surpassed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Man of Steel to become the highest-grossing movie of the DC Extended Universe at the North American box office.

As of Thursday, the Patty Jenkins-directed film has earned $330.5 million, edging past BvS's total domestic haul of $330.4 million. Furthermore, Wonder Woman has earned that after just 28 days in release whereas it took BvS 84 days to make that much.

While both BvS and Suicide Squad enjoyed bigger domestic openings than Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman ultimately managed to avoid the massive attendance drops each successive weekend that befell those two DCEU films.

Marvel Reveals Legacy Renumbering, Series & Storyline Titles

Marvel Reveals Legacy Renumbering, Series & Storyline Titles

Last week, Marvel Comics released a series of animated GIFs across the Internet, revealing various covers that pay homage to the company’s rich past while crafting stories to take its character into the future. And, as you might have guessed, each cover in turn revealed a different title to be brought under or launched as part of the Legacy banner. All said, Marvel Legacy will involve 53 separate Marvel Universe series.

The covers are just part of the publisher’s Marvel Legacy/tag/marvel-legacy initiative, which kicks off in September with the Marvel Legacy one-shot. The issue, written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by Esad Ribic, is designed to “set the stage for the next chapter of the Marvel Universe with hope, heroism, heart and the Earth-shattering return of a beloved Marvel mainstay.” Who that mainstay is remains to be revealed, though a classic-look Captain America has been at the forefront of much of the one-shot’s promo art.

Along with the covers, Marvel has also officially revealed the official title of each of its 53 Legacy-branded series, the name of the storyline that will kick off each series’ new era, and the new/old numbering. Of particular interest to longtime fans, a number of the series now find themselves in the 700-plus range, with Amazing Spider-Man now officially the longest running Marvel comic at #789.

Creatives teams have not yet been officially announced for any of the series, though some of last week’s cover releases did tease some of that information. Also missing are several newly announced series, including the recently touted Runaways relaunch, which is slated to debut in September.

Other Marvel Legacy teases include the announcement that readers will meet the Avengers of 1,000,000 BC (Odin, Iron Fist, Starbrand, Ghost Rider, Phoenix, Agamotto, and Black Panther), learn the “startling origin of the Marvel Universe,” and see shockwaves that affect every aspect of the Marvel Universe in the months and years to come. The overall Legacy initiative is designed to showcase Marvel’s most popular characters in new storylines, returning the publisher’s long-running titles to their original numbering, and reviving fan-favorite elements that may have been lost in recent years. The publisher is also bringing back such Marvel classics as the Marvel Value Stamp, the 1970s fan magazine “FOOM,” and more.

“MARVEL LEGACY #1 isn’t simply a history lesson,” SVP and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort said in a statement. “Rather, it’s the starting gun to a bevy of mysteries, secrets, and revelations that will reverberate across the Marvel Universe in the weeks and months to come! No character, no franchise will be untouched by the game-changing events that play out across its pages. Jason and Esad pulled out all the stops to fat-pack this colossal issue with as much intrigue, action, surprise, mystery, shock, and adventure as possible!”

Check out all the covers below, along with each series’ official title, the name of their first storyline of the Legacy era, and new numbering.
