Marvel Shake-up! Kevin Feige Sidesteps Marvel CEO

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will now report directly to Disney studio head Alan Horn, sidestepping Marvel Entertainment CEO Issac Perlmutter after what their source called “several years of frustration.” Perlmutter, who purchased Marvel at what was essentially a fire sale in the mid 1990s, is notorious for both micromanaging his employees and pinching every last penny; questioning the need for office supplies and demanding the Marvel office feature one unisex bathroom. Ever controlling, even the file photo used here — the last he allowed to be taken — is thirty years out of date.

Perlmutter was also the author of the infamous email found in the Sony leak referring to female-led superhero movies as “disasters,” though the email itself focuses on poorly made and poorly received films like Elektra and Supergirl. It is entirely possible he was talking about the sad history of those movies.

THR’s source also claims Feige vented his frustrations with Perlmutter during a meeting with Horn and Disney CEO Bob Iger earlier this summer, eventually leading to the restructuring of Marvel’s businesses. The new paradigm went into effect last week, according to those same sources.

In a statement, a Disney spokesperson said, “Marvel Studios is taking the next logical step in its integration with The Walt Disney Studios, joining Pixar and Lucasfilm in centralizing many of its film-related functions in Burbank.”

When Marvel first joined the Disney empire, some wondered if Perlmutter’s management style would spill over into the other kingdoms as he became a large shareholder and a prominent voice on the board, but it is seemingly clear which elements within Marvel the central Disney leadership will back. While the new organizational structure further integrates Marvel Studios and Disney, Perlmutter will continue to manage Marvel’s publishing, television, animation and other operations — no doubt demanding fewer staples be circulated.

Tom Selleck’s Jesse Stone Comes To Hallmark Channel

tom-selleck-jesse-stoneIf you’ve never watched a Jesse Stone TV movie — starring Tom Selleck and based on the novel series by Spencer creator Robert B. Parker — they’re certainly worth a look. The low key crime dramas feature Selleck as Jesse Stone, a recovering alcoholic and occasional police chief of Paradise, Massachusetts. Gloria Reuben and William Devane recurring the series as police officer Thelma Gleffey and Stone’s therapist Dr. Dix  in the film series and past guest stars include Stephanie March from Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and Arrested Development‘s Mae Whitman.

Yes, her.

The movies previously aired first on CBS, home of Selleck’s crime show, Blue Bloods, but move to Hallmark Channel with the October 25th premiere of Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise. According to TV Line, the plot sees Stone “agreeing to serve as a consultant on an unsolved murder case in Boston. The local police suspect ‘The Boston Ripper,’ a killer who is already behind bars, but Stone believes the murderer is a bit closer to home, setting him off on an investigation filled with surprises and grave danger.” Isn’t that always the way? Leslie Hope and Luke Perry appear in the film, which marks the series’ tenth anniversary. Longtime series director Robert Harmon returns with a script co-written by Selleck and producer Michael Brandman.

‘The Donetsk Banksy’ Creates Comic Book About Being Kidnapped In Ukraine

Sergey Zakharov, a Ukranian artist nicknamed ‘The Donetsk Banksy’ who was captured by militants for his artwork is doing exactly what you’d expect after being released.

11950298_915986745129744_7222531127454851339_o (1)

He’s creating art about it. And it happens to be a comic book, telling the story of both his kidnapping and and that of other political prisoners in eastern Ukraine.

Last summer he created artwork that mocked the “Donetsk People’s Republic” in July of 2014, with 2D figures of separatists painted like clowns and with distorted faces and placed throughout city streets.

He was then captured and held for seven weeks where, with others, he was tortured.

In the middle of the night the guards would get drunk, seize one of the prisoners and take them to another building, where they would beat them again.

He told Hromadske TV in a recent interview “If I was a writer, I would write a book, but I’m an artist, so it will be a comic book”.

And after releasing sketched pages by way of a preview on Facebook and has received a number of publishing offers.

Look for a finished volume next year,
