Deadpool Takes Bets On Avengers Vs X-Men On Hastings Variant Cover

Hastings is the chain department store that recently went large on ordering comics from the direct market, as well as issuing their own variant covers of certain titles. And because they dont cover the whole country, giving those who live near a Hastings a leg up in the comics speculator wars.

And now Hastings are doing an Avengers Vs X-Men variant, with Deadpool taking bets on the outcome of the fight from the likes of Mr Sinister, the Red Skull, Apocalypse, Loki and more…

Deadpool always wins folks. Remember that.

Trailer For The Black Comedy Bernie – Richard Linklater Casts Jack Black As A Lady Killer. Literally

One the one hand it’s a School of Rock Reunion, on the other it’s a Based On A True Story tale of a seemingly decent young man who seemingly murders a seemingly indecent old woman, with Jack Black and Shirley MaClaine in the starring roles.

Richard Linklater‘s Bernie premiered at the LA Film Festival last year to mixed reviews, and I can see that this trailer might fail to either knock you dead or… um… push up your little daisy.

Strange blend of pseudo-documentary talking heads and traditional narrative styles there (see also To Die For, this year’s Black Pond, and the version of Moneyball that Soderbergh never got to make). I wonder what Linklater does with this curious format?

Watch Archetype, The Impressive “War Bot” Short Just Set To Be A Feature Film

Get ready to hear “The next District 9” about six times a day for the next eighteen months.

Aaron Sims‘ short film Archetype premiered on YouTube in January after a clever and deliberate hype campaign. If the film wasn’t made with the purpose of getting Sims a feature deal (which it blatantly was), it was certainly released with the clear goal of boosting his career (blatant squared, but fair play to him).

And it worked. Variety have just announced that Sims will make his feature length debut with an expansion of the film, working with writers Gary Busick and Ryan Murphy and producers John Davis and John Norris.

(Note: Not the Glee Ryan Murphy but a newcomer, apparently)

Sims has had a day job running The Aaron Sims Company, providing FX work for Sucker Punch, some Narnia film or another, The Incredible Hulk and plenty more.

But now, thanks to Archetype, he’s got his own fish to fry. Here’s the short in full – and stay tuned to the end for concept art for scenes from a longer story.

And, while we’re here, have a look at Sims’ earlier film, Paralyzed. It’s not quite up to the same standards, but there’s definitely good FX work here, between the absurd shakicam and overtalk.

Pages Five And Six From Darkness #100. SPOILERS

If you are intending to read Darkness #100, stop now. This article contains spoilers for a neat little trick on pages five and six of the new issue and I’d hate to spoil it for you.

If however, you have no intention of buying Darkness #100 then read on. It might just change your mind.

This is page five of Darkness #100, out today. I got the McFarlane cover. Okay, now this comic does something rather interesting for what is intended to be a serious superhero/horror story that doesn’t extend into the metafictitious elements that Alan Moore and Grant Morrison like to play with. It’s not a comic you expect that kind of thing from. Above is page five of the comic in question. In which Jackie Estacado slices open his assailant in an unexpected fashion. Turning the page… I didn’t know what I was looking at. Backwards lettering? What did it say… hadn’t I just read that? What was… oh…

That’s nice, isn’t it? Isn’t it?

Emma Watson Is Going Celebrity Robbing In Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring

Paris Hilton. Orlando Bloom. Lindsay Lohan. Megan Fox. Rachel Bilson. Audrina Partridge. What do all this people have in common, aside from being rich and beautiful? They were all victims of the ‘Bling Ring’ a group of teenagers in Calabasas, California, who went a-robbing the homes of celebrities and had gathered a haul worth about $3 million by the time they were caught.

Now it looks as though Emma Watson will be shedding her teacher’s pet image, as according to Variety she has just been cast in Sofia Coppola‘s dramatisation of the burglaries, also called The Bling Ring. Coppola will be writing and directing the feature, as well as co-producing with her brother Roman Coppola.

The story was adapted as a Lifetime TV movie with the same name last year, so Coppola has a lot to live up to in this retelling. It remains to be seen whether any of the burglary victims are planning to make an appearance on the cast list.

Sean Von Gorman In Chains Outside Forbidden Planet

This is Sean Von Gorman. He has chained himself outside Forbidden Planet in Manhattan until all the copies of his new comic, The Secret Adventures of Houdini, have sold out. It has yet to sell out. It has, however, been raining.

Online sales count as well. Go on, help him out. Otherwise he’ll be there all night. And all next night. And…

If you pass by him tonight, say hello from Bleeding Cool. Wake him up if you must.
